Practice History

The Muswell Hill Practice (formerly Dukes Avenue Practice) was created in 1982 by Dr Margaret Safranek and Dr Bill Smith, formerly a partner at Highgate Group Practice. This was in response to the growing number of patients in Muswell Hill who were registering at Highgate due to the shortage of GP’s in Muswell Hill.

The practice grew rapidly and today offers primary care to around 15,000 people in the N10 area.

The ethos of the practice is to try and offer the best care possible within the NHS and to strive to retain the core values of "family medicine".

The work of the doctors is supported by skilled and dedicated staff under the leadership of Natalie Ker Watson, the practice manager.

Almost since inception we have been a teaching practice with doctors who have finished hospital training joining the practice for twelve months to complete their training, before moving on to general practice positions elsewhere. At other times in the practice there may be medical and nursing students on attachment. We feel it is important to contribute to the training of the GPs of the future.

The Edwardian terraced house which was purpose converted at the inception of the practice has been changed over the years and although not ideal for modern primary care it is situated in the heart of the locality.
